Things can be tough right now. Nothing in the news seems good, and every day brings a new trigger warning. What can we do?
I want to hear what books, movies, and music get you through the tough times.
My personal empowerment movie is Fried Green Tomatoes. Its focus on women and female friendships is so different from anything else out there. And when Kathy Bates ugly-cries that she’s too old to be young and too young to be old, well, I identify completely with that.
When I want to staple someone’s head (or worse) I pull out this DVD and feel better. TOWANDA!
Someone the other day was talking about rereading Eat, Pray, Love for similar reasons. I’m not a fan of that book because most of us can’t drop our lives and travel like that to fight our demons. I have no objection to it being the thing that gets others through “those days.” It just doesn’t work for me.
Please comment below with your secret survival tool. I’ve watched my movie many times in the past year, and something else might make a pleasant change of pace!
